Estimate vs. Quote

Estimate – approximate amount  that Radon Specialist of Catawba Valley will perform the Mitigation. This is normally given as a range “between X dollars and Y dollars”. Web Estimates are quoted in this manner. This ‘estimate” is necessary due to a variety of unknowns that usually these can be answered with a job site visit. Some of these that unknowns are:

1) Location of the suction point and how to route the exhaust out the structure

    a) If through roof, how to hide the pipe in the structure

    b) If through side wall, how to hide the exhaust (usually as a matching downspout)

2) Composition of the material beneath the slab

3) If monolithic slab and no interior footings

4) Holes in slab, such as beneath tub(s), showers, sump pumps and lift stations

5) Wide and unsealed cracks (including peimeter moisture drains) behind finished perimeter walls

6)  Where fan to get its electrical supply and by what means

Most of these unknowns can be determined by a visual examination, but items 2, 3, 4 and 5 may require further diagnostics.

The fewer unknowns, the more efficient and better the design and also the lower the quote. (See “More for your $$”)

Quote (Bid) – lump sum amount Radon Specialist of Catawba Valley will perform the Mitigation. The majority of Radon Specialist of Catawba Valley’s work is lump sum, however when diagnostics are not done or a condition remains with unknown then the quote may have an add or deduct until that condition becomes known.
